Banks 5 Island White Blend Rum
Banks 5 Island is a white rum inspired by the travels of 18th-century English botanist, naturalist and explorer Joseph Banks. In 1786, the intrepid explorer rounded the Pacific Ocean from Cape Horn to the Cape of Good Hope alongside the great navigator Captain Cook.
Banks 5 Island consists of a blend of 21 different pot and column distilled rums from six distilleries from five countries. The bulk of the rum used in the blend is column distilled and is we believe sourced from the Angostura Distillery in Trinidad. This is blended with rums from two distilleries in Barbados as well as pot still rums from Jamaica and Guyana. Lastly, and perhaps most notably, the Indonesian island of Java provides a particularly pungent style of rum known as arrack, more usually the key ingredient in Swedish punch. These rums from five countries (four islands plus Guyana which isn't an island) are blended, charcoal filtered to remove colour and bottled in Amsterdam.
Appearance: Crystal clear.
Aroma: The pungent aroma of arrack is immediately apparent on the nose, which along with Jamaican pot still rum gives 5 Island a spicy fruity aroma reminiscent of freshly cut passion fruit.
Taste: Tropical fruit continues into the medium bodied spicy palate with Matcha green tea, grassy, herbal and fresh parsley.
Aftertaste: Dry, grassy and white pepper lingering spicy finish.
