Undurraga Red Field Blend

Around the 18th Century, farming families came to the dry lands of Maule; families who saw these lands as providing the opportunity for a better life, far from the city. The only condition was that they had to have the mettle and courage to tame a wild area, without water and with a type of soil they had not seen elsewhere but that ultimately proved to be a great treasure. These noble grape-growers developed a more natural, traditional type of agriculture that was int ouch with the cycles of the land. They planted varieties that were unknown at that time but which adapted well to the extremely dry conditions.

This wine pays homage to those first people. A field blend from vineyards that are over 60 years old. A new-found treasure that dates back to ta period when time stood still; a period that tested the mettle and willpower of the real original viticulturists of Chile.

A wine made as a ‘field blend’, a mixture of varieties of vines that are interplanted in the vineyard. The blend is mainly Malbec with small contributions of Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinalt and Pais. The different varieties are co-fermented so that together they can give the wine greater complexity and character. The vineyard is planted in Coronel del Maule, a very special place, right on the border between Caquences and Itata. The coastal influence is greater here than common Cauqenes that determines a cooler mescoclimate. old vines over 60 years old, cultivated with minimal interventions, are trained in the traditional bush form and in dry conditions are essential to achieve grapes with great potential.

Limited Production of 7335 bottles, with numbered labels.

Tasting notes:

Deep, lively red colour with violet hues. The nose reveals delicate red fruit, such as cherries and raspberries, intermingled with black fruit like plums, along with floral and spicy notes, such as violets, aniseed and liquorice. The character comes through in the mouth with firm tannins, great fluidity and freshness. medium intensity on the mid-palate, which is vibrant with fresh red fruit and notes from ageing. This is a rounded, very concentrated and well-balanced wine with personality and a long finish.
