Côtes du Rhône Santa Duc (Domaine) Les Grands Calcaires Famille Gras 2018
Côtes du Rhône Santa Duc (Domaine) Les Grands Calcaires Famille Gras 2018
The Cuvée
This Côtes-du-Rhône white wine stands out for its freshness and minerality, undoubtedly attributed to the northern orientation of the plots cultivated on limestone soils. The estate has conducted a low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This method helps preserve the freshness of the wine, making it an excellent pairing with fish and seafood.
The Santa Duc Estate
In an idyllic and breathtaking setting, the Domaine Santa Duc, whose name means "great owl" in Provençal, produces wines that are refined, pure, and elegant at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Located in the Gigondas appellation, a renowned Provençal vineyard known since the Gallo-Roman era for its characterful red wines, the Domaine Santa Duc has been managed by five generations since 1874. The philosophy of the estate is embodied in one word: RESPECT. Respect for the plant, nurtured with care and kindness. Respect for biodiversity and soil life. The estate operates under organic and biodynamic viticulture methods. The grapes are hand-harvested, partially or completely destemmed depending on the terroirs. To impart complex aromas and fine tannins to the wine, they macerate slowly and cold before being aged in large casks. Only indigenous yeasts are used to ferment the wines, which are aged on fine lees and bottled without filtration. As Robert Parker aptly states, "The estate combines the muscle, richness, and vigor of classic Gigondas with a degree of elegance and purity that many wines from the appellation lack."
